Description

A custom game installation that physically engages players through an immersive experience in the space between light and darkness.

Light Box is a complete kit for configuring video games in real space. It transports players to the center of a game, where they point a beam of light at LED targets installed in patterns adapted to the location. Light Box can be set up for a single player, multiplayer, or even a freeform experience of light and sound.

In every configuration of Light Box, players engage with their environment by triggering LED targets. They pick up a light source and intuitively engage with the game in physical space, moving around to discover the functionalities.

Light Box was initially created as a university project by Bálint Márk and György Droste. The idea behind the project was to create a platform for many different types of games. The basic act of interacting with objects by shining light on them turned out to be engaging enough to upgrade the project and give it a Ludopium makeover. Light Box was used to create an installation for the Clash of Realities Cologne in 2017 and later at the FACT festival Budapest in 2018.
